Job Overview

Salary: $80,000 - $120,000 per year

As a Structures Analysis Engineer at PLD Space, your mission is to optimize and validate rocket designs, contributing to weight optimization and performance guarantee. You will be involved in hardware testing, which will allow you to validate designs and finite element methods (FEM) via test correlations.

Responsibilities
  • Achieve stress justification for new designs using hand calculations and FEA methods for composites and metals.
  • Perform test predictions and test correlations to improve FEA confidence.
  • Create global finite element models (GFEM) and detailed models (DFEM) for primary and secondary structures.
  • Perform linear and non-linear structural analyses, including linear buckling and dynamic analyses.
  • Participate in review processes, preparing reports, memos, and compliance documents in English.
  • Liaise with other functions to ensure stress requirements are met.
Necessary Requirements
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Aeronautical, Mechanical, or related engineering.
  • Experience with structural analysis, including hand calculations, FEA linear, non-linear, buckling, and explicit dynamics.
  • Fundamental knowledge of metallic structure behavior and failure modes, such as strength and stability.
  • Experience with Finite Element Analysis software.
  • Self-motivation and ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • Proactive and good team worker.
  • Knowledge in scripting software, such as MATLAB, Python, or VBA.
  • Fluency in Spanish and English.
Desired Requirements
  • Proficient in using Finite Element Analysis principles and associated tools.
  • Experience with HyperWorks/HyperMesh and OptiStruct.
  • Good knowledge of MatLab and VBA Excel.
  • In-depth knowledge of engineering principles and design techniques related to composite materials, classical laminate theory, and finite element modeling techniques.
  • Knowledge in fatigue analysis.
  • Understanding of spacecraft manufacturing methods and processes.
  • Experience in FEA correlations, structures.
