Position Overview:

We are in search of a seasoned Backend Architect to become a vital member of our Architecture Team in Barcelona. In this role, you will oversee our systems, contributing to one of Europe's premier e-commerce platforms that handles millions of transactions daily across 40 countries. You will report directly to the Chief Architect and will be tasked with delivering technical solutions that align with our business objectives while collaborating closely with development teams, product managers, and fellow architects.

Key Responsibilities:

As a Backend Architect, you will:

  • Lead the technical advancement of one or more backend microservices within our platform.
  • Serve as the primary resource for lead engineers and senior developers regarding coding, design, and tools.
  • Collaborate with approximately 30 developers across multiple teams.
  • Assist business and product teams in defining and prioritizing their backlog items.
  • Contribute innovative ideas to enhance the backlogs of business and product teams.
  • Mentor and guide lead and senior engineers in their professional development.
  • Engage with other architects on cross-team and company-wide technical initiatives.

Qualifications:

To thrive in this role, you should possess:

  • A minimum of 8 years of backend development experience in Java.
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline.
  • Expertise in software coding, design patterns, architecture, and performance engineering.
  • Strong communication skills to engage with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Assertiveness and the ability to influence others positively.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in designing microservices.
  • Familiarity with additional programming languages and platforms such as JavaScript, Groovy, or Swift.
  • Experience with machine learning systems.
  • Background in large-scale multilingual e-commerce websites.
  • Experience in the travel industry.
