We are in search of a seasoned Backend Architect to become a vital member of our Architecture Team in Barcelona, overseeing our sophisticated systems. As one of Europe's premier e-commerce platforms, our infrastructure manages millions of transactions daily across 40 countries, necessitating exceptional performance and maintainability standards. Reporting directly to the Chief Architect, you will be tasked with delivering technical solutions that align with our business objectives while collaborating with development teams, product management, and fellow architects. Responsibilities:

As a Backend Architect within our Architecture Team, you will be responsible for:

  • Leading the technical advancement of one or more backend microservices within our platform
  • Serving as the primary resource for lead engineers and senior developers regarding coding, design, and tools
  • Collaborating with approximately 30 developers across multiple teams
  • Assisting business and product teams in scoping and prioritizing their backlogs
  • Contributing innovative ideas to help address challenges faced by business and product teams
  • Mentoring lead and senior engineers to foster their technical development
  • Partnering with other architects on cross-team and company-wide technical initiatives

Qualifications:

To thrive in this role, you should bring a unique perspective and be willing to propose innovative solutions. Here’s what you need:

  • A minimum of 8 years of backend development experience in Java
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline
  • Expertise in software coding, design patterns, architecture, and performance engineering
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Assertiveness and the ability to influence others positively

Preferred Qualifications:

While not mandatory, the following will be advantageous:

  • Experience in designing microservices
  • Familiarity with additional programming languages and platforms such as JavaScript, Groovy, or Swift
  • Exposure to machine learning systems
  • Experience with large-scale, multilingual e-commerce websites
  • Background in the travel industry
