Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) is a public sector institution that promotes and develops biomedical research, innovation, and teaching at Vall d'Hebron University Hospital. We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled researcher to join our team in the Research group on Neuromuscular and Mitochondrial diseases.
The selected candidate will participate in the project "Identification of factors regulating mitochondrial respiratory complex I function and stability: exploring novel opportunities for therapeutic intervention (TARGETCOMPLEX-I)", which aims to increase our knowledge on the mechanisms regulating respiratory complex I (CI) function. Mutations affecting CI activity are not only the most frequent cause of mitochondrial disease, a subset of rare diseases, but CI deficiency plays a pivotal role in many other prevalent diseases.
Requirements
• Bachelor's (300 ECTS credits) or Master's Degree in biomedical sciences (or equivalent)
• Fluency in English (written and spoken)
• High motivation, reliability, and initiative
• Ability to work both independently and within a team
• Good organizational skills and excellent attention to detail
Desired
• Certification as User of Laboratory Animals (certified for A, B and C functions)
• Dedicated interest in mitochondrial biology
Main Responsibilities
• Collaborating in the generation, management, and biochemical/molecular characterization of genetically modified mice
• Designing and conducting in vivo and in vitro preclinical assays for complex I deficiency
• Writing of manuscripts and presentation of the results at local and international meetings
• Contributing to the general shared tasks of the laboratory
Labour Conditions
• Full-time position: 40h/week
• Starting date: according to the call, within the next four months
• Contract duration: 4 years (FPI grant)
• Estimated annual gross salary: Salary ranges are consistent with our Collective Agreement pay scale
