Senior Probabilistic Safety Analyst for External Events

Position Overview :
The successful candidate for the role of PSA Engineer focusing on External Events will become an integral part of a dynamic, multidisciplinary team dedicated to the design of a next-generation nuclear power facility, as part of SMR LLC, a subsidiary of Holtec International, a recognized global provider of equipment and systems across various energy sectors including nuclear, solar, geothermal, and fossil fuel generation.
In this position, the PSA Engineer for External Events will play a crucial role in conducting probabilistic safety analysis for both internal and external events related to the SMR-300 plant during its design and construction stages. Collaborating closely with engineers, designers, and analysts, the PSA Engineer will thrive in a fast-paced development environment. The role involves active participation in the daily operations of a multinational PSA team, ensuring effective technical communication and information sharing among various PSA task leaders throughout the development of external events analysis for the SMR plant.
The ideal candidate will possess substantial experience in executing external events analyses, including the creation of supporting databases such as FRANX, developing hazard curves for specific events, fault tree modeling, and assessing risk significance for safety systems and components involved in the external events analysis. Responsibilities will also include engaging in requirements development, detailed engineering analysis, and the preparation of technical documentation.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct essential PSA activities as part of the multinational PSA team, focusing on engineering analyses and technical documentation. Acquire a comprehensive understanding of the SMR-300 design concept, including its safety features and the functional design of the plant's Systems, Structures, and Components (SSC). Collaborate with team members from various disciplines and external vendors to identify and propose potential enhancements to the SMR-300 design and operations based on PSA risk insights. Provide risk analysis perspectives to system designers of the SMR-300. Prepare and review design deliverables and presentations. Develop and implement methodologies for PSA related to internal and external events. Maintain and enhance assigned External Event PSAs, including performing system-level and plant-level quantification, uncertainty analysis, and sensitivity analysis. Assist in the development of engineering and licensing documentation.Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Engineering, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related engineering field. 5-10+ years of experience in probabilistic safety analysis modeling. Strong analytical skills, problem-solving abilities, and proficiency in computer applications. Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Exceptional attention to detail, ensuring the production of error-free documentation. Eligibility to work under 10 CFR Part 810.Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degree in Nuclear Engineering, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline. Experience in commercial nuclear or naval nuclear design and/or operations. Background in safety analysis for Pressurized Water Reactors (PWR). Familiarity with CAFTA, MELCOR, RELAP, RADTRAD, GOTHIC, or other conventional computer codes for nuclear power plant modeling and risk quantification. Experience in Thermal-Hydraulic Analysis, Component Reliability Analysis, or Human Reliability Analysis. Experience in specialized PSA areas, including Low Power/Shutdown, Internal Flood, Internal Fire, External Flood, High Winds, or Seismic Margins Analysis, is advantageous. Candidates with a minimum of 5-10 years in the PSA discipline, including 2-5 years in a specialized PSA area, may be considered for a Senior Specialty PSA Engineer role.-
