About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Nuclear Safety Engineer to join our team at Holtec International. As a Senior Nuclear Safety Engineer for External Events, you will play a critical role in supporting the design and construction of our next-generation nuclear power plant, the SMR-300.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Support internal and external events probabilistic safety analysis evaluations of the SMR-300 plant throughout its design and construction phases.
  2. Work alongside engineers, designers, and analysts in a dynamic development environment to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the SMR-300.
  3. Participate in the daily activities of the multinational PSA team, ensuring continued technical communication/information exchange between various PSA task leaders during the development of external events PSA for the SMR plant in its design and construction phases.
  4. Perform external events analyses, including the development of supporting databases such as FRANX, hazard curves for the event of interest, fault tree modeling, quantification and determination of risk significance for SSCs credited in the external events PSA.
  5. Develop and implement PSA methodologies for internal and external events, and develop and maintain assigned External Event PSAs including performing system level and plant level quantification, uncertainty analysis, and sensitivity analysis.
  6. Support the development of engineering and licensing documentation, and provide risk analysis perspective to SMR-300 system designers.
Requirements
  1. B.S. degree in Nuclear Engineering, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or closely related field of engineering.
  2. 5-10+ years of experience in PSA modeling.
  3. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and computer skills.
  4. Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  5. Excellent attention to detail and capable of producing error-free documents.
  6. Eligible to work under 10 CFR Part 810.
Preferred Qualifications
  1. Advanced degree in Nuclear Engineering, Materials Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or closely related field of engineering.
  2. Experience in commercial nuclear or naval nuclear design and/or operation.
  3. Experience in safety analysis of Pressurized Water-type reactors (PWR).
  4. Experience with using CAFTA, MELCOR, RELAP, RADTRAD, GOTHIC and/or other conventional computer codes for NPP model development and risk quantification.
  5. Experience with Thermal-Hydraulic Analysis and/or Component Reliability Analysis and/or Human Reliability Analysis.
  6. Experience in a specialty PSA, including Low Power/Shutdown, Internal Flood, Internal Fire, External Flood, High Winds or Seismic Margins Analysis PSA modeling, is a plus.
