Overview and Purpose
The Barcelona Supercomputing Center is seeking a skilled individual to oversee and facilitate the comprehensive management of research initiatives within the Earth Sciences Department. This role will encompass the entire project lifecycle, from proposal development to project execution and closure. The successful candidate will work closely with the Senior Project Manager of the Earth Sciences division.
Primary Responsibilities
  • Identify and assess funding prospects for designated research teams, collaborating with the Senior Project Manager to maintain a strategic calendar for proposal submissions.
  • Lead the proposal management process, including drafting and coordinating the management section of project proposals, while ensuring compliance with administrative criteria.
  • Manage contract negotiations and oversee the drafting and execution of various agreements, safeguarding the interests of the Center and its researchers.
  • Coordinate project activities by meticulously planning resource allocation, monitoring progress, and maintaining effective communication with stakeholders, including Principal Investigators and funding agency representatives.
  • Contribute to the enhancement of the Project Management Office by sharing best practices and fostering strong relationships with research group leaders.
Qualifications
  • Educational Background
    • Bachelor’s degree or higher
    • Additional training in project management and research proposal development is advantageous
  • Required Experience
    • Minimum of three years in managing European research projects
  • Preferred Experience
    • Familiarity with coordinating research proposals and projects funded by European Commission Framework Programmes and national funding plans is beneficial
  • Skills
    • Proficiency in English is essential
    • Strong written and verbal communication abilities
    • Willingness to travel as necessary
    • Ability to work independently and proactively
    • Capacity to thrive under pressure and meet tight deadlines
    • Excellent report writing skills in English
    • Proficient in office software, including word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation tools

Employment Conditions
  • The position is based at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center.
