About the European Forest Institute
The European Forest Institute (EFI) is a leading international organisation dedicated to forest research and policy support at pan-European and global levels. With 30 member countries and over 130 associate and affiliate member organisations, EFI undertakes cutting-edge research and projects that promote sustainable forest management and environmental conservation.
As a Communications Officer, you will play a key role in our Mediterranean and Genetics Resources Facilities team. Your primary responsibility will be to contribute to the strategic development of our communications and network activities.
Main Responsibilities
- To actively contribute to the development of communications strategies and project proposals for our projects and initiatives.
- To plan, execute, and monitor communication and dissemination tasks, including developing digital tools, visual communications, post-production, websites, printed materials, social media, and analytics.
- To write, edit, and produce compelling content such as articles, press releases, science storytelling, reports, social media posts, and newsletters highlighting forest-related research, policies, and achievements.
- To create targeted communication materials for stakeholder groups, including decision-makers, donors, and forest-dependent communities.
- To support other networking and capacity-building activities as required, including planning, marketing, organisation, administration, implementation, reporting, and evaluation.
- To assist in the preparation of internal and external facility and project reports.
- To maintain contact mailing lists.
- To contribute to EFI's other outreach activities as required.
Requirements
- A minimum of 3 years' professional experience in communications or a related field.
- A degree in a relevant subject or equivalent experience working at a similar level in a specialist area.
- Excellent Adobe Creative Suite skills, web CMS expertise, social media tool proficiency, and Microsoft Office skills.
- Video editing skills are an asset, as well as previous experience in graphic design and production of visual communication materials.
- Exceptional interpersonal and organisational skills, ability to multitask, work under pressure, and be flexible as part of a small team.
- Experience in organising events, both online and in-person.
- A positive, engaging, can-do attitude with initiative and high motivation.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English, Spanish, and/or other Mediterranean languages are an asset.
- Understanding of environmental and forestry-related issues.
- Cross-cultural communication skills to work effectively in international settings.
Working Conditions
This fixed-term appointment is for three years, with the possibility of further extension depending on project opportunities and performance. The successful candidate will be based at EFI's office in Barcelona, Spain.
Salary
The salary range for this position is approximately €40,000-€55,000 per annum, depending on qualifications and experience.
