Unity Technical Lead Job Description

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled Unity Technical Lead to join our team at Labster Aps. As a Unity Technical Lead, you will be responsible for leading the development of our Unity-based game engine, ensuring it meets the highest standards of performance, scalability, and reliability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of Unity-based game engine systems, tools, and workflows for other developers and content creators.
  • Implement game engine systems, tools, and workflows for other developers and content creators.
  • Guide the team in technical matters, ensuring the team achieves successful delivery of quality solutions.
  • Responsible for team dynamics, encouraging and nurturing a culture of collaboration and cohesion.
  • Orchestrate the collective efforts of the team to achieve their goals efficiently.
  • Drive and participate in conversations and decisions regarding the technical vision for the game engine with technical, product, and content creator stakeholders.
  • Evaluate new frameworks and tools that can be integrated into the existing engine without breaking previous implementations.
  • Define and implement the optimal Unity architecture that supports Labster business goals in coordination with the Engineering Director, Web Lead, and Product Manager.
  • Define and evangelize new designs, best practices, and workflows to align the development team.
  • Identify bottlenecks in the development process and propose new ways to overcome them.
  • Coach other developers and ensure alignment and consistency in the project.
  • Ensure code quality and best practices are applied in the team.
  • Spending time hands-on writing code and driving technical discussions and decisions within the circle.
  • Support the team to deliver on their commitments.

Requirements:

  • 2+ years as Technical Lead using Unity.
  • Deep understanding of Unity workflows and tools.
  • Proficiency in business English communication skills are required.
  • You have been part of shipping multiple titles/products preferably on VR platforms and tool packages using Unity3D.
  • Experience operating a game during the production and post-production phase (Game as a service mentality).
  • You have a curious mindset and like to navigate all aspects of the project technical stack.
  • Expert in C#.
  • Excellent track record of building a high-performing engine and tooling for game designers and content creators.
  • Strong understanding of game programming patterns.
  • Directing performance optimization including CPU and GPU performance, memory, streaming, and build processes.
  • Knowledgeable in refactoring and optimizing when it's appropriate.
  • Excellent code review skills.
