OBJECTIVE
The Freight Cost Management & Supporting Materials role is integral to the GWT GBS team, concentrating on operational responsibilities across two primary domains:
- Financial Operations: This position will oversee financial activities related to freight cost management, including execution, forecasting, and budgeting.
- Thermal Equipment Material Coordination: The role involves managing the procurement process for thermal materials (such as dataloggers and thermal blankets) in collaboration with Bayer sites and Contract Manufacturing Organizations (CMOs) globally, encompassing budgeting, cost oversight, and the enhancement of operational processes.
In addition to daily operational tasks, the candidate is expected to contribute to process enhancements and potential projects that broaden the scope of responsibilities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Financial Operations for Freight Costs: Manage the tracking of Internal Outward Freight (IOF) values, 4PL invoice amounts, and account entries. Verify invoice details at the shipment level and approve them in Ariba. Review and authorize additional charges for exceptional cost management.
- Management of IOF Costs: Monitor and manage IOF costs to meet monthly objectives (with a fiscal year budget of approximately 180 million EUR). Collaborate closely with 4PLs on cost developments, calculate accruals for finance, and support ad-hoc analyses.
- Forecasting & Budgeting for IOF Costs: Enhance the IOF projection model for budget calculations. Gather and develop necessary inputs from key stakeholders (including price and volume projections). Prepare and facilitate discussions regarding budgeting and forecasting with finance.
- Airfreight Cost Management: Further refine the airfreight budget projection model. Calculate the necessary airfreight budget to meet IOF targets. Oversee the airfreight budget process, including monthly communications of airfreight budgets and costs with GSM, conducting quarterly steering meetings, and supporting the implementation of improvement initiatives. Assist with ad-hoc analyses.
- Support for Thermal Equipment Materials:
- Direct the ordering process for thermal equipment (primarily dataloggers and thermal blankets) for Bayer sites and CMOs.
- Collaborate with GWT, Supply Chain, and Quality to develop process improvements.
- Place Purchase Orders in coordination with Finance and GWT.
- Track and monitor all orders operationally (with a division cost of approximately €1.5 million and around 300 orders).
- Conduct operational cost tracking of equipment by type and supplier, including transportation expenses.
- Engage in communication with Bayer sites, CMOs, supplier managers (Bayer), logistics service providers (external), and material suppliers (external).
- Manage escalations in case of issues (e.g., delivery or transportation challenges).
QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree in business administration, logistics, supply chain management, industrial engineering, or a related field.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in logistics and supply chain, preferably with a focus on operations.
- Experience in finance is advantageous.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Proficient in advanced Excel functionalities and database applications.
- Strong understanding of SAP business processes is preferred.
- Familiarity with Bayer's supply chain is a plus.
- Fluency in English; knowledge of German is an advantage.
