PhD Researcher in Photovoltaic Materials
Research Area:Oxide Nanophysics Group
About the Project:Our research group is a world leader in exploring new electronic functionalities induced by strain gradients, known as flexoelectricity. Currently, we are focusing on a giant flexophotovoltaic effect, where large photovoltages can be generated in semiconductors when they are bent. This project aims to investigate the possibility of achieving giant flexophotovoltaic effects in gradient-engineered thin films of perovskite oxides and to study how such photovoltages affect the mechanical properties of the material, particularly its shape, via photostriction. If successful, this research would pave the way for new-generation solar cells with increased efficiency and photo-mechanical actuators that can be remotely operated with light.
Main Responsibilities:The successful candidate will be the main driver of this research project, requiring a strong sense of responsibility, intellectual autonomy, scientific curiosity, and good problem-solving skills. The main tasks will include:
- Fabricating gradient-engineered thin film devices using in-house facilities.
- Measuring photovoltaic and photostrictive properties using adapted facilities.
- Analyzing, interpreting, and critically discussing results.
- Presenting results in various formats, including informal presentations, formal talks, and articles for peer-reviewed journals.
The ideal candidate should have a Graduate Degree in Physics or a related field and a Master's Degree completed before the starting date of the contract, preferably in an area related to this project. Specific experience in condensed matter physics is desirable but not essential, as our group will provide the necessary knowledge and training. The candidate should also possess good communication skills, a good command of English, and be willing to contribute to a cooperative and vibrant intellectual atmosphere.
Working Conditions:The position is full-time (37.5 hours/week) with a temporary contract length of 4 years. The salary will depend on qualifications and demonstrated experience. The ICN2 offers support for relocation issues and life insurance.
