PhD Student in Novel Photovoltaic Effects

Description of Group/Project:The Oxide Nanophysics Group at the Institut Català de Nanociència i Nanotecnologia (ICN2) is a world leader in research on new electronic functionalities induced by strain gradients (flexoelectricity). Our current focus is on a giant flexophotovoltaic effect, where large photovoltages can be induced in semiconductors when they are bent. This project aims to explore the possibility of achieving giant flexophotovoltaic effects in gradient-engineered thin films of perovskite oxides and to measure how such photovoltages affect the mechanical properties of the material.
Main Tasks and Responsibilities:The successful candidate will be the main driver of this research project, responsible for fabricating gradient-engineered thin film devices, measuring their photovoltaic and photostrictive properties, analyzing and interpreting the results, and presenting them in different formats. The candidate will also be expected to work collaboratively with the research team and contribute to the development of new ideas and techniques.
Requirements:The ideal candidate should have a strong background in condensed matter physics, materials science, or a related field, with a Master's degree completed before the starting date of the contract. Specific experience in photovoltaics, nanotechnology, or related areas is desirable, but not essential. The candidate should also have good problem-solving skills, intellectual autonomy, and a strong sense of responsibility.
Summary of Conditions:The contract will be for a period of 4 years, with a full-time work schedule of 37.5 hours per week. The salary will depend on qualifications and demonstrated experience.
