Job Description

Haare In Bestform is seeking a highly motivated PhD researcher to join our team in the field of sustainable food packaging. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a cutting-edge project that aims to develop innovative and eco-friendly coatings for food metal packaging.

Project Overview

The project focuses on the development of sustainable and safe alternatives to traditional bisphenol A (BPA) coatings. The researcher will work on creating biologically sourced coatings using tomato pomace, a by-product of the fruit processing industry, and enhance them with microcrystalline cellulose and gallate esters for improved mechanical strength, antibacterial properties, and antioxidant capabilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct research on developing sustainable and bioactive lacquers from tomato pomace for use in food metal packaging.
  • Compare the properties of these new coatings with traditional BPA-based resins.
  • Evaluate the environmental impact and production costs of the new manufacturing process.
  • Work with environmentally friendly and scalable technologies to achieve the desired coating characteristics.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's and Master's degree in Chemistry, Food Science, or a related field.
  • Desirable experience in polymer science and/or food packaging.
