The UWICORE laboratory at the Universidad Miguel Hernández (UMH) de Elche (Spain) is offering several PhD student & post-doc positions on Knowledge-Driven 6G Networks for Connected Mobility and Smart Manufacturing.

Research Focus

Our research focuses on the design of novel Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based solutions to process and interpret contextual information for generating collective awareness, predicting the evolution of context, and determining the relevance and semantic value of information for optimizing the efficiency and scalability of 6G communications and networks.

Key Research Areas
  • Design of AI-based solutions for contextual information processing and interpretation
  • Causal reasoning mechanisms for explainability, accuracy, and computational cost reduction
  • Study of infrastructure for collaborative knowledge generation with devices and sensors
  • Design of knowledge-driven, AI-based, and semantic 6G networking protocols for scalability and deterministic service levels
Requirements

PhD candidates should have a Master in Computer Science or Engineering, Telecoms, or Electrical Engineering (or closely related disciplines). Interest or experience in 5G and beyond wireless networks, Artificial Intelligence, V2X communications, and autonomous systems is required. Good programming skills, theoretical foundations, analytical modelling, and critical thinking skills are also necessary. Publications in journals and conferences are positively considered, but not required. Experience with machine learning software is a plus.

Post-doc candidates should have a PhD in Computer, Telecoms, Electrical or Robotics Engineering (or closely related fields), and a high-quality track record of publications in relevant journals and conferences. Proficiency in programming languages, software development, debugging, and deployment is required. Experience with machine learning software is a plus. Strong theoretical foundations and analytical modelling experience are also a plus.

Benefits
  • Contract duration: 2 years for post-docs and 3 years for PhD students
  • Starting date: as soon as possible

The UWICORE laboratory is a research group with solid and internationally recognized experience in wireless networks applied to connected and automated mobility and smart manufacturing. The laboratory is actively involved in EU and national projects, standardization, and R&D contracts with industrial partners. Some of the research in the offer will be done in collaboration with some of our industrial partners in the USA. The laboratory is located in the Mediterranean coast of Spain (Elche) and is part of the Communications Engineering Department of the Universidad Miguel Hernández (UMH) and of the Institute for Engineering Research (I3E) of Elche.
