Scientist, Applied Bioinformatics

We are seeking a highly skilled Scientist, Applied Bioinformatics to join our Computational Genomics group at 1113 Celgene Research. As a key member of our team, you will play a critical role in advancing our industry-leading pipeline in multiple therapeutic areas, including Immuno-Oncology, Cardiovascular, Fibrosis, and Immunoscience.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and Apply Advanced Computational Analysis: Design and implement cutting-edge computational analysis and biological interpretation approaches aligned with key scientific objectives and focused on bulk and single-cell Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) profiling experiments.
- Integrate Data Across Assay Platforms: Integrate data from various assay platforms and transfer knowledge to impact early drug discovery and translational development programs.
- Apply Contemporary Methods for Genomic Data Processing: Utilize contemporary methods for genomic data processing, analysis, interpretation, and visualization.
- Contribute to Development of NGS Data Processing Protocols: Contribute to the development and implementation of both established and novel NGS data processing protocols.
- Participate in Algorithm and Platform Evaluations: Participate in the evaluation of algorithm, platform, and vendor performance, as well as the development of novel analytical protocols and pipelines.
- Author Scientific Reports and Present Results: Author scientific reports and present methods, results, and conclusions to publishable standard.
- Collaborate on Global Projects: Contribute to the planning and execution of collaborative projects with leading academic and commercial research groups worldwide.
- Ph.D. in Bioinformatics or Computational Biology: Hold a Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a related field, or a Master's degree in one of these fields with 2+ years of experience in the field.
- Expert Knowledge of Bioinformatics Trends: Possess expert knowledge and hands-on experience with current bioinformatics trends, public genomic tools, databases, and utilities, with a focus on Next Generation Sequencing methods.
- Experience with NGS Processing and Analytical Pipelines: Have experience with NGS processing and analytical pipelines, including alignment, SNV, SV, and CNV calling algorithms, common NGS manipulation and visualization tools, and standardized NGS data formats (e.g., SAM/BAM, VCF).
- Fluency with Linux-Based High-Performance Computing Environments: Be fluent with Linux-based high-performance computing environments, code sharing and tracking practices (GitHub), and application containerization (docker).
- Strong Problem-Solving and Collaboration Skills: Possess strong problem-solving and collaboration skills, as well as rigorous and creative thinking.
- Excellent Written and Oral Communication Skills: Have excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to explain complex ideas to computational scientists, experimentalists, and clinicians.
- Experience with Machine Learning/Deep Learning Methods: Have experience with machine learning/deep learning methods and their application.
- Experience with 3rd Generation Sequencing Methods: Have experience with 3rd generation sequencing methods (PacBio, Nanopore) assays and their application.
- Experience with Single Cell Assays and Analytical Methods: Have experience with single cell assays and contemporary analytical methods of various single cell modalities (scRNA-seq, scATAC-seq, etc.).
- Experience with Epigenetic Assay Analysis: Have experience with epigenetic assay analysis and related method development and application.
- Experience with Cloud Computing and Reproducible Research Practices: Have experience with cloud computing (AWS, GCP) and reproducible research practices.
- Programming Skills in Scripting Languages: Possess programming skills using scripting languages (e.g., Python, R/Bioconductor) and contemporary database structures.
- Experience in Algorithmic Implementation and Statistical Programming: Have experience in algorithmic implementation, statistical programming, and data manipulation.
