Job Title: Senior Legal Counsel, EMEA

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for providing legal support to the EMEA business, reporting to the Legal Director, EMEA. The successful candidate will provide responsive legal advice and support for transactional work, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders to identify and manage risks and solve business/legal problems.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Autonomously complete and lead routine legal work, including contract review, commercial and corporate law consults, and negotiation and assistance in matters related to EMEA strategies, transactions, and operations.
  2. Independently advise the business on legal and other risks arising from policy decisions and current organization practices.
  3. Under the supervision of the Legal Director, EMEA, lead and support high-complexity legal work.
  4. Support the execution of EMEA strategies, with a keen understanding of the business' priorities.
  5. Be responsible for the corporate housekeeping of all legal entities handled in EMEA.
  6. Support and coordinate the execution of any corporate restructuring in EMEA.
  7. Review corporate documents and liaise with outside counsel on corporate matters.
  8. Autonomously supervise and support the EMEA Legal Department in the formalization, review, signature, and recordkeeping of corporate documents, powers of attorney, and contracts.
  9. Support the EMEA business teams with all requests related to powers of attorney and required formalities.
  10. Under the supervision of the Legal Director, EMEA, act as a liaison between internal CHS business teams and external legal service providers in matters under their responsibility.
  11. Work with functional colleagues in the Legal, Governance, Compliance & Audit department to strengthen departmental collaboration, including sharing best practices.
  12. Provide proactive and strategic advice on areas of developing legal risks in the external business and legal or regulatory environment.
  13. Support the Senior Legal Counsel, EMEA, and the Litigation colleagues at the Global Legal & Compliance Team with the conduction and management of claims and litigation in EMEA.
  14. Support the EMEA Legal Department Administrative Assistant to ensure processes are set for efficient internal billing, including invoice review of matters under their responsibility.
  15. Champion and promote a strong compliance culture, following all compliance policies, procedures, and regulations.

Requirements:

  • Authorized to live and work, and admitted to practice law, in Spain or Romania.
  • Specialization or post-graduate degree is appreciated.
  • Minimum eight years' experience as an in-house attorney in a multinational company.
  • Extensive track record on advising in corporate, contractual, and commercial matters.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and drafting skills.
  • Collaborative and influential leadership style.
  • Strategic, growth-oriented mindset; comfort with ambiguity and an ability to lead in a high-change environment.
  • High integrity and compliance-focused.
  • Highly effective written and verbal communications skills; ability to communicate and relate at all levels of the organization; ability to define and enforce standards where necessary in a persuasive and winning manner.
  • Experience in commodity trading is an asset.
