Research Opportunity in Mitochondrial Biology

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented researcher to join our team at the Vall d'Hebron Research Institute (VHIR) in Barcelona, Spain. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work on a project focused on the identification of factors regulating mitochondrial respiratory complex I function and stability.

About the Project

The project, titled "TARGETCOMPLEX-I", aims to increase our knowledge on the mechanisms regulating respiratory complex I (CI) function. Mutations affecting CI activity are a major cause of mitochondrial disease, and CI deficiency plays a pivotal role in many other prevalent diseases. Our research group has made significant contributions to the field, including the discovery of a novel subunit of CI, NDUFA10, which is bound to most of the dGTP present in mitochondria.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Collaborate in the generation, management, and biochemical/molecular characterization of genetically modified mice.
  • Design and conduct in vivo and in vitro preclinical assays for complex I deficiency.
  • Write manuscripts and present results at local and international meetings.
  • Contribute to the general shared tasks of the laboratory.
Requirements

To be eligible for this position, candidates must have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent in biomedical sciences or a related field. Fluency in English is required, and certification as a User of Laboratory Animals is highly valued. Prior experience working with cell culture and laboratory mice, as well as state-of-the-art biochemistry and molecular biology techniques, is desirable.
