Introduction to Role:
Vanderlande's Technology Department is responsible for designing, specifying, and commissioning material handling systems for our customers. As a Controls R&D Engineer, you will work in a collaborative environment to translate customer needs into effective design solutions, provide accurate time estimates, produce manufacturing and assembly drawings, manage documentation, and create BOMs.
You will design, develop, and test our PLC operating systems (Siemens TIA Portal & Allen Bradley STUDIO), drawing up requirements for the systems and developing efficient solutions with the project team. Additionally, you will analyze risks, solve problems, and contribute to improvements.
These products will be used as building blocks by the Engineering department, who will integrate them into systems for our worldwide clients. You will support your colleagues in this integration process as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Translate concepts into realized alternatives, considering functionality, feasibility, quality, manufacturability, costs, and completion time.
- Collaborate with team members to optimize use of expertise.
- Maintain VI Equipment Product lines, including supporting documentation.
- Develop a planning for work to be done, estimate workload and lead time, and communicate changes and risks to relevant colleagues.
- Finalize designs and deliverables according to our processes to ensure a smooth transition to stakeholders.
- Coordinate technical details with VI Supply Chain.
- Improve existing equipment designs.
- Occasionally travel to manufacturing facilities and project sites to evaluate processes and design improvements.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or engineering technology (e.g. Electronics, Mechatronics, or Software related).
- 3-5 years' experience in material handling or related industry.
- Knowledge of TIA Portal, Studio 5000, etc.
- Understanding of Electrical drawings.
- Knowledge/Experience of EU and US electrical and safety norms.
- Experience with PLC, Frequency Inverters, HMI, etc.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Direct experience designing automated systems with PLC controlled systems, including safety designs, motor protection and control, and Industrial Communication and networking.
- Experience in field engineering on-site.
