Position Overview
As a Senior Engineer specializing in Kubernetes Infrastructure at New Relic, you will play a pivotal role in enhancing our backend systems that support numerous Kubernetes clusters across various cloud platforms. Your expertise will enable software engineering teams to gain real-time insights and optimize their applications.

Your Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
  • Develop, maintain, and scale Go-based projects and their associated tools.
  • Contribute to the infrastructure at New Relic, ensuring its effective management and development.
  • Engage in Open Source initiatives, allowing you to enhance your skills and professional reputation.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to identify service enhancements and explore new tools to address complex challenges.
  • Implement incremental shipping practices, ensuring a steady flow of feedback on project progress.
  • Operate within an agile framework, adopting a DevOps mindset where teams are responsible for their software lifecycle, including second-layer support.

Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess:
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in software development or operations.
  • A degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Golang, Java, Python, or Bash.
  • Extensive experience with containerization technologies, including Kubernetes and related tools.
  • A solid foundation in application and system programming, along with Linux system administration skills.
  • Experience in Infrastructure as Code (IAC) practices.
  • A willingness to learn new programming languages as needed.
  • A comprehensive understanding of security, reliability, performance, and cost-effectiveness in distributed systems on public cloud platforms.

Preferred Skills
Additional qualifications that would be advantageous include:
  • Experience with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins or Circle CI.
  • Familiarity with API design and development using Go.
  • Knowledge of cloud technologies like AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • A strong grasp of Linux operating systems and concepts related to virtualization and containerization.
  • Active involvement in open source development projects.
