About the Position

We are seeking an experienced researcher to join our team at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) in the Earth Sciences department. The successful candidate will be part of the Atmospheric Composition (AC) group, which focuses on advancing our understanding and prediction of atmospheric pollutants and their impact on air quality, weather, climate, and health.

Key Responsibilities
  • Update and develop input information for emission modeling tools and datasets.
  • Develop methodologies to improve emission estimates, focusing on air pollutants of emerging concern.
  • Provide quality assessment and evaluation of emission modeling tools and datasets.
  • Support the application of emission modeling tools in air quality modeling activities.
  • Advance current emission estimation methodologies using earth observations.
  • Evaluate emission estimates using air quality modeling techniques.
  • Further develop and apply AI knowledge and skills.
  • Conduct original research and disseminate findings in high-impact publications and conferences.
  • Provide scientific support for competitive applications for research projects.
Requirements
  • Ph.D. degree in environmental engineering, physics, data science, remote sensing, or similar.
  • Strong experience in atmospheric emissions and characterization of emission sources (6 years minimum).
  • Experience in developing bottom-up emission inventories and evaluating emission estimates (6 years minimum).
  • Demonstrated scientific expertise with a record of scholarly publications.
  • Experience in programming and code development (Python, R).
  • Previous experience managing or coordinating a team of researchers (1 year minimum).
What We Offer
  • Full-time contract (37.5h/week), flexible working hours, private health insurance.
  • Duration: 4 years.
  • Salary: 55,000.00 €.
