Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced researcher to drive the scientific advancement of emission modeling tools and datasets at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC).
Key Responsibilities- Update and Develop Emission Modeling Tools: The successful candidate will be responsible for updating and developing the input information underpinning the emission modeling tools and datasets.
- Improve Emission Estimates: The researcher will develop methodologies to improve emission estimates, focusing on air pollutants of emerging concern.
- Quality Assessment and Evaluation: The candidate will provide quality assessment and evaluation of the emission modeling tools and datasets.
- Support Air Quality Modeling Activities: The researcher will support the application of emission modeling tools in air quality modeling activities.
- Advance Emission Estimation Methodologies: The successful candidate will advance current emission estimation methodologies using earth observations.
- Evaluate Emission Estimates: The researcher will evaluate emission estimates using air quality modeling techniques.
- Develop AI Knowledge and Skills: The candidate will further develop and apply AI knowledge and skills.
- Conduct Original Research: The researcher will conduct original research and disseminate findings in high-impact publications and conferences.
- Support Research Projects: The successful candidate will provide scientific support for competitive applications for research projects.
Education: A Ph.D. degree in environmental engineering, physics, data science, remote sensing, or similar.
Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience:
- Atmospheric Emissions Experience: Strong experience in atmospheric emissions and characterization of emission sources (6 years minimum).
- Emission Inventories Experience: Experience in developing bottom-up emission inventories and evaluating emission estimates (6 years minimum).
- Scientific Expertise: Demonstrated scientific expertise with a record of scholarly publications.
- Programming Skills: Experience in programming and code development (Python, R).
- Team Management Experience: Previous experience managing or coordinating a team of researchers (1 year minimum).
Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience:
- Language Skills: Fluency in English; proficiency in Spanish and other European languages is advantageous.
- Machine Learning Experience: Experience in machine learning/AI is valued.
- Atmospheric Science Knowledge: Knowledge of atmospheric science data formats and experience with scientific software and tools.
Competences:
- Teamwork: Ability to work in a team and in a multi-cultural environment.
- Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Initiative and Time Management: Ability to take initiative, prioritize, and work under deadlines.
Contract Details: The position will be located at BSC within the Earth Sciences Department. Full-time contract (37.5h/week), flexible working hours, private health insurance. Duration: 4 years. Salary: 55,000.00 €.
