We are seeking an experienced Software Engineering Manager to lead our cloud infrastructure engineering team at Canonical. As a key member of our engineering leadership team, you will be responsible for managing a team of remote engineers, developing their skills, and driving the delivery of high-quality software.
Key Responsibilities- **Lead a team of remote engineers**: Manage a team of experienced engineers, providing guidance, mentorship, and feedback to ensure they are working effectively and delivering high-quality results.
- **Develop talent through coaching and mentoring**: Identify areas for improvement and provide coaching and mentoring to help engineers grow in their roles.
- **Set and manage expectations**: Work with other engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders to set and manage expectations for project delivery.
- **Advocate for modern software development practices**: Promote and implement modern software development practices, such as Agile and DevOps, to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the team.
- **Participate in the engineering process**: Participate in code and architectural reviews to ensure that the team is following best practices and delivering high-quality software.
- **Engage with the community**: Engage with the open-source community, partners, and other teams at Canonical to ensure that the team is working effectively and delivering value.
- **Technical expertise**: Have a deep understanding of Linux kernel, virtualization, and cloud computing technologies, including networking, storage, and containers.
- **Leadership experience**: Have experience leading successful engineering teams and managing remote engineers.
- **Communication skills**: Have strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- **Programming skills**: Have experience programming in C and/or Go.
