As a Clinical Laboratory Scientist at 100 Lcmc Health, you will have the unique opportunity to uncover the answers to complex health problems and diseases. Your meticulous approach to performing clinical laboratory testing, evaluating, and reporting data will be instrumental in shedding light on medical mysteries.

Your Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure specimens received by the laboratory are acceptable for testing by applying the appropriate criteria and record any necessary changes or preparations.
  • Label, accession, and distribute specimens to maintain patient identification integrity throughout processing.
  • Initiate orders for blood and/or blood components from the appropriate supplier.
  • Follow hospital/laboratory safety and infection control policies, reporting any variances to section supervisors.
  • Determine the appropriateness of manual methods, micro-methods, and backup procedures, initiating such procedures as needed.
  • Use the computer system to compare patient results to previous results during the same encounter, investigating discrepancies and reporting test results within established departmental turn-around times.
  • Prepare and interpret gram stains and other wet and dry preparations for bacteriology and parasitology.
  • Perform routine procedures, including ABORH typing and retesting, antibody detection and identification, compatibility testing, and serology procedures.
  • Prepare blood components while maintaining aseptic technique and proper storage.
  • Follow universal precautions when dealing with blood or body fluids and disinfect countertops at the end of the shift.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain clinical laboratory instruments and equipment, troubleshooting basic malfunctions and documenting actions in the appropriate log.
