About the Role

The Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) is seeking a skilled Backend Developer with advanced SQL expertise to join our team. As a pivotal member of our team, you will investigate and resolve operational processes on a daily basis, contributing to the project National IMPaCT-Data.

You will leverage your skills and problem-solving abilities to meticulously investigate issues, identify their root causes, and implement effective solutions. Your expertise will ensure the seamless functioning of the EGA services and databases.

Through your proactiveness, you will not only address immediate challenges but also contribute to the continuous improvement and streamlining of our operational processes, driving our organisation and project success.

About the EGA

The EGA (European Genome-Phenome Archive) is a resource for permanent secure archiving and sharing of all types of potentially identifiable bio-molecular, phenotypic, and clinical data resulting from biomedical research projects.

We host more than 16 petabytes of data, including more than 3700 studies and 8600 datasets. The EGA is an active partner in numerous international and national projects and contributes to establishing international standards in genomics and health research.

Currently, the EGA is involved in many precision medicine initiatives and projects and looks forward to providing advanced services for that research community.

The EGA team at CRG is a diverse group composed of bioinformaticians, developers, and scientists from various backgrounds.

The EGA is a Global Alliance for Genomics and Health (GA4GH) driver project, an ELIXIR Core Data Resource and Recommended Deposition Repository, as well as an ELIXIR Spain service.

In Barcelona, the EGA is based at the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park (PRBB) and receives support from the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) and the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF).

Professional Experience

Must have:

  • Expertise in advanced Postgre
  • Proficiency in PostgreSQL, including PL/pgSQL and replication
  • Advanced Python skills
  • Knowledge on AWS, specifically for S3, EC2, SES...
  • Familiarity with messaging software, specifically RabbitMQ
  • Knowledge on Jenkins for automating software development processes, ensuring smooth integration and deployment
  • Experience with Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) pipelines to efficiently process and manage large volumes of data
  • Advanced Linux systems administration
  • Knowledge on Docker and related tooling
  • Proficiency in SQL and familiarity with Big Data database technologies

Education and training:

  • You hold a Degree in Computational Science or a related field
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar position
  • Proven experience in Linux distributions, as well as experience in databases, system security, and related technologies

Languages:

  • You are fluent in English, as it is the working language of the group
