Casualty Underwriter Job Description

As a Casualty Underwriter at AXA XL, you will have the opportunity to work with a diverse range of clients to provide innovative and bespoke underwriting services.

Each risk we consider is unique, ensuring our clients and brokers enjoy a best practice, market-leading experience of working with us.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Underwrite, manage, and service a renewal book and produce new business in accordance with business unit goals and aligned with local and group underwriting guidelines.
  • Develop and manage underwriting strategies for both renewals and targets within your portfolio of accounts, including knowledge of the current penetration by product, cross-marketing penetration, and specific plans to increase company share.
  • Analyse and evaluate risks, demonstrating technical consistency.
  • Build and enhance relationships with brokers and clients, identifying and establishing new distribution relationships.
  • Maintain expertise with products, services, priorities, and targeted markets.
  • Maintain awareness of all claims advised, supporting and providing input on settlement of claims.
  • Identify and drive new product development opportunities.
  • Effectively cross-market with other AXA XL lines, meeting with brokers and insureds as required.
  • Cultivate key broker relationships to maintain a steady stream of business within our underwriting appetite.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Law, Business Administration, or Engineering.
  • Good English command.
  • Some years of experience in underwriting, policy development, and broker management in Liability. Experience in corporate segment will be valued.
  • Good market and industry knowledge. Valued knowledge of the Portuguese Market.
  • Understand stakeholders' needs and concerns, identifying points of agreement. Efficiently manage interactions with other parties involved.
  • Explore different alternatives and influence other parties to reach an agreement with positive outcomes for all.
  • Know and use selling and negotiation techniques; adapt to the customer's situation, needs, and behavior.
  • Good analytical skills.
  • Work in a team with colleagues of different seniorities and expertise to achieve collective goals.
