Principal Applied Scientist, Shopping Discovery and Evaluation

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Applied Scientist to join our Shopping Discovery & Evaluation team at Amazon. As a trusted member of our technical leadership, you will bring business and industry context to science and technology decisions, setting the standard for scientific excellence and making decisions that impact the way we build and integrate algorithms.
Key Responsibilities- Define key research directions, adopting or inventing new machine learning techniques to drive innovation and improvement in our shopping experience.
- Conduct rigorous experiments and publish results to advance the state-of-the-art in machine learning and AI.
- Ensure that research is translated into practice, developing long-term strategies and persuading teams to adopt those strategies.
- Propose goals and deliver on them, participating in organizational planning, hiring, mentorship, and leadership development.
- Serve as a key scientific resource in full-cycle development, from conception to delivery and maintenance.

We create immersive, visual, and personalized shopping experiences that inspire customers to kickstart their next shopping journey.
Requirements- PhD with specialization in artificial intelligence, natural language processing, machine learning, or computational cognitive science.
- 10+ years of combined academic and research experience.
- Strong publication record in top-tier journals and conferences.
- Functional thought leader, sought after for key tech decisions.
- Mentors and trains the research scientist community on complex technical issues.
- Experience developing software in traditional programming languages (C++, Java, Python, etc.).
- Excellent written and spoken communication skills.
- 10+ years of experience building and deploying innovative machine learning solutions at scale.
- Expert level skills across many Machine Learning methodologies.
- Published research work in academic conferences or industry circles.
- Experience delivering complex end-to-end global ML solutions that run at very large scale.
- Experience working with real-world data sets and building scalable models from big data.
