Technical Leadership Manager

Ocado Group stands as a pioneering technology-driven enterprise, specializing in software and robotics, with a rich legacy in retail. Since its inception in 2000, Ocado has been a leader in the online grocery sector, operating one of the largest online-only supermarkets globally, generating over £2.2 billion in annual revenue and serving more than 795,000 active customers.
The Product Engine serves as the core of our Shop division, supplying essential product information to various clusters and departments, while also ensuring that this data is easily searchable through our comprehensive Search OSP Product.
The Cookies team concentrates on our Core domain, enhancing Search infrastructure, transitioning to a new OpenSearch Managed solution, and developing a new Simulation Engine for comprehensive offline testing. This team collaborates closely with both the Matching and Ranking teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Foster and maintain strong relationships and trust within the team and with stakeholders, promoting a unified Ocado approach.
- Engage with team members to refine processes and practices, continually seeking the optimal way of working for the team.
- As part of the Cluster leadership team, collaborate with peers to enhance processes and eliminate inefficiencies.
- Support the personal growth, goal setting, and career advancement of your engineering team to help them realize their full potential.
- Oversee the team's delivery, working collaboratively to mitigate risks and resolve obstacles, while keeping Product and Engineering leadership informed.
- Maintain a strategic Jira plan of capabilities, considering the team's capacity and alignment with Product Managers and other priorities.
- Work with the team to identify and prioritize technical enhancements, balancing these with business objectives.
- Assist the team in delivering solutions that are thoroughly tested and of high technical quality, fostering an environment where team members take pride in their work.
- Strong personal organization and proactive management of responsibilities.
- Ability to see the broader picture, aligning cluster and departmental goals with team-specific objectives.
- Translate business requirements into a clear team vision and technical direction.
- Exceptional, proactive, and clear communication skills.

- Familiarity with Agile methodologies.
- Previous experience in a leadership role.
- Technical expertise with relevant tools (Java, PostgreSQL/RDS, DynamoDB, Hollow, ECS, SNS/SQS, Kinesis).
