**Job Summary**
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Database Engineer to join our team at New Relic. As a key member of our database platform team, you will play a critical role in designing, implementing, and maintaining our database infrastructure to build a robust and scalable database-as-a-service platform.
**Key Responsibilities**
- Design and develop high-performance database systems using MySQL, PostgreSQL, Redis, and Kubernetes.
- Develop and maintain tools and applications to facilitate database management and orchestration.
- Monitor and optimize databases to ensure high availability, performance, and security.
- Use Kubernetes to develop and maintain controllers for managing databases and related resources.
- Develop automation for database and Kubernetes-related tasks such as provisioning, backup, scaling, and monitoring.
**Requirements**
- 4+ years of experience running highly scalable databases and database infrastructure.
- BS/MS in Computer Science, or education/experience in a relevant field.
- Experience with Kubernetes, including developing and maintaining controllers.
- Knowledge and experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud, Azure) and their managed database services (e.g., RDS, Amazon Aurora).
- Experience in software development using Go.
- Experience with containerization technologies (Docker).
- Experience in infrastructure as code frameworks (Terraform).
- Experience working with Agile methodologies.
- Strong problem-solving skills to address and resolve sophisticated database-related issues.
- Excellent communication skills both verbally and in writing with a passion for growth and collaboration.
- Working proficiency and communication skills in verbal and written English.
**Nice to Have**
- Proficiency in MySQL, PostgreSQL, and/or Redis including schema design, query optimization, and performance tuning.
- Experience in cloud DBaaS production environments.
- Familiarity with Crossplane or similar tools for controlling cloud-managed services.
- Solid understanding of the Linux operating system and concepts such as virtual machines and containers.
