About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Software Systems Design Engineer to join our team at Roche. As a key member of our software development program, you will be responsible for providing servant leadership to a technical definition and acceptance team, ensuring the deliverables of design input within a software development program, and participating in design reviews.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner with business and software development teams to translate high-level business/customer requirements and user needs into clear and detailed software design specifications.
  • Interact with implementation teams to ensure that delivered software features and solutions are aligned with the design specifications and the overall architectural vision of the product.
  • Manage and maintain the product backlog in collaboration with business stakeholders, ensuring that features are well-defined, estimated, and aligned with project goals.
  • Facilitate backlog grooming sessions to maintain a clear and actionable backlog.
  • Provide the development team with detailed design specifications that create clear direction for implementation efforts.
  • Develop comprehensive use cases to capture functional requirements, user interactions, robust assessment of alternate flows and exception handling, and consideration of system complexities, integrations, and edge cases.
  • Ensure that activity diagrams, user interactions, and acceptance criteria are clear, concise, and effectively communicate intended system behavior to all stakeholders and technical teams.
  • Uphold the standards of modular design to create scalable, maintainable, and reusable software components.
  • Assist and influence the team to focus on customer centricity, built-in software quality, and holistic system design thinking in addition to technical excellence.
  • Guide the team through all phases of the software development lifecycle, leveraging agile ways of working and quality by design standards.
  • Work with System Architects and team to introduce architectural enablers to maintain architectural runway.
  • Review and critique presentations for others; present complex technical data to large and diverse groups.
  • Consult on software development and software systems design-related concerns and make significant contributions to strategic direction and alignment to overall software best practices and customer-centric approaches.
