The Role: NLP Engineer

vLex seeks an experienced Natural Language Processing (NLP) Engineer to join our Knowledge Extraction team. As an NLP Engineer, you will design and develop data pipelines to perform data tagging and extraction at scale, tackling complex problems such as document segmentation, entity recognition, and language understanding in the legal domain.

You will work closely with our international team to deliver high-quality software and data output, leveraging Python and Java codebases, Apache Spark, and Amazon Web Services (AWS). Our technology approach combines machine learning and rules-based approaches, requiring strong technical skills and attention to detail.

Responsibilities
  • Implement new features and improve existing capabilities across the NLP stack
  • Write and maintain reliable code with excellent code coverage
  • Perform data analysis and exploration
  • Collaborate with downstream product teams to conceptualize data tagging requirements
  • Drive projects from conception to completion
Requirements

We are looking for a skilled software engineer with a strong academic background in Computer Science or a related field and 2+ years of experience in software development. The ideal candidate will possess:

  • 3+ years of experience in software engineering roles
  • A good academic background with a college degree in Computer Science or a related field and 2+ years of experience in software development
  • Previous experience in NLP projects is not required, but a strong interest in the field is essential
  • Comfortable working in an agile and iterative team environment
  • Self-driven and fast learner, excited to master new technologies as needed
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with strong technical documentation skills
  • Collaborative and team-oriented
  • Good command of both English and Spanish languages
