The Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) is a leading international biomedical research institute of excellence, based in Barcelona, Spain, with over 400 scientists from 44 countries.

Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated PhD student to join our 'Evolutionary Processes Modeling' group at the CRG. The ideal candidate should be eager to work on evolutionary and biological problems and to learn about the use and development of computational, statistical, and machine learning approaches.

Research Focus

Our group is particularly interested in understanding how the evolution and survival of cancer cell populations rely on mutation influx and how we can identify cancer driver events from observed mutation data. To this end, we develop mathematical and computational approaches to estimate mutation rates, tumor growth dynamics, and selection.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct research on evolutionary and biological problems using computational and statistical approaches
  • Develop and apply mathematical and computational models to understand cancer evolution and survival
  • Collaborate with the research group to design and implement experiments and data analysis
  • Present research findings at international conferences and publish in top-tier scientific journals
Requirements
  • University Degree and Master's degree in physics, mathematics, statistics, genetics, bioinformatics, computer science, or related disciplines
  • Proficiency in English
  • Experience with computer programming (preferably R and/or Python)
