As part of the Global Asset Engineering and Design Team at APM Terminals, the Equipment Engineer plays a crucial role in the deployment of terminal machinery for both new and existing facilities. This position involves translating operational needs into precise technical specifications and detailed technical drawings.

In addition, the Equipment Engineer evaluates technical proposals and collaborates with the Procurement team to select suppliers, focusing on optimizing costs and timelines while minimizing risks.

The role requires conducting thorough technical reviews of equipment designs developed by suppliers, whether electrical or mechanical.

We seek an experienced equipment engineer proficient in developing equipment specifications, participating in extensive procurement processes, and overseeing the delivery and commissioning of heavy machinery, ideally within port or container terminal settings.

Key Responsibilities:

Equipment Design:

Create and maintain standard specifications for various types of equipment, ensuring they are updated with the latest technologies and insights from terminal operations, while adhering to guidelines that affect technical, safety, and operational performance.Collaborate with colleagues to develop the Employer's General Requirements, integrating safety, operational, maintenance, automation, and asset digitization criteria.Manage the type approval process and maintain a comprehensive register of equipment systems and components authorized for global use.

Engineering Projects:

Engage in due diligence and new business case development alongside the broader engineering team.Work closely with the global Automation team to stay informed about trends in automation and technology, ensuring these are considered for terminal operations.Prepare documentation outlining the scope for Requests for Proposals from suppliers.Conduct technical feasibility assessments and provide recommendations for equipment.Participate in tender teams, analyzing and evaluating supplier proposals.Achieve design reviews with the necessary consultant support.Act as the corporate Single Point of Contact (SPOC) for Equipment Engineering on assigned projects.Assist projects in recruiting, onboarding, and managing project Equipment Managers.Collaborate with and, when necessary, direct external consultants.

Subject Matter Expertise:

Offer essential input for new or existing equipment retrofits, particularly focusing on electrification, hybrid initiatives, and automation.Provide global support to terminals and procurement as part of operations, facilitating technical enhancements and innovations.Foster effective communication and collaboration with related functions and external stakeholders, promoting result-oriented cross-functional cooperation to achieve shared objectives.

Essential Qualifications/Skills/Experience:

Experience:

A minimum of 5-7 years of relevant experience in defining Equipment Technical Specifications and serving as the Engineering Subject Matter Expert within Project Execution Teams.Extensive experience with heavy equipment, preferably in port environments.Strong understanding of mobile port equipment, with relevant exposure to various engineering disciplines and systems (PLC, electrical diagrams, automation systems, hydraulics, mechanics, steel structures).Proven international experience is essential.

Qualifications/Skills:

Exceptional analytical, collaborative, and communication skills, demonstrating empathy.Solid understanding of project environments.Self-motivated, results-oriented, and driven.High level of discipline in following through on actions and ensuring necessary documentation.Strong quality awareness and attention to detail.Experience in multicultural environments, sensitive to cultural diversity regarding employees, local authorities, and other stakeholders.Customer-focused and safety-oriented.Proficient in spoken and written English at a business level is mandatory.

Education:

MSc or BSc in Electronic, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering.
