About the Role:
The Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) is seeking a highly skilled Junior Research Engineer to join our Earth Sciences Department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for conducting in-depth research on downscaling methodologies for air quality data and investigating the correlation between indoor and outdoor air quality levels.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze and evaluate model results against observations, preparing charts and reports to support our research.
- Develop machine learning and AI workflows for downscaling air quality data, utilizing your expertise in statistical methods in R and/or Python.
- Collaborate with scientists, IT developers, and policy-makers to conduct multidisciplinary research and develop user-tailored products for European and national projects.
- Communicate scientific results within the Department, at international conferences, and through quality papers in scientific publications.
Requirements:
Education: A Master's degree in Meteorology or a related field is required.
Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience:
- At least one year of experience in indoor/outdoor air quality data analysis.
- Proficiency in statistical methods in R and/or Python.
- Previous experience with Geographic Information Systems.
- Ability to work effectively in a professional environment and within a multidisciplinary research team.
- Excellent verbal communication and technical presentation skills, with fluency in English.
Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience:
- Experience with UNIX/LINUX environments and GIT.
- Experience in model development and application in parallel computing environments will be valued.
- Willingness to travel for work-related purposes.
Competences: Fluency in English is essential, and fluency in other European languages is also valued.
Working Conditions: The position will be located at BSC within the Earth Sciences Department, and we offer a full-time contract with 37 hours per week.
