MongoDB is seeking a highly skilled individual to become a vital member of our newly established Field Engineering division, playing a significant role within our extensive R&D framework. The Field Engineering team serves as a bridge between application modernization initiatives and our Product and Engineering divisions.
We are particularly interested in candidates located in Barcelona, as we operate under a hybrid work model.
Many enterprises are burdened with extensive legacy application portfolios. Common challenges include limited scalability and resilience, prolonged development cycles, high operational costs, and difficulties in cloud integration. To tackle these challenges, organizations are undertaking substantial Application Modernization initiatives. MongoDB is recognized as the preferred developer data platform for transactional systems, offering unparalleled scalability, resilience, and developer experience both in the cloud and on-premises. Companies are increasingly migrating workloads from outdated applications to modern platforms, frequently utilizing microservices and MongoDB.
These transformation processes can be time-consuming and fraught with risk. However, tools powered by generative AI hold the potential to expedite these transformations in unprecedented ways. The Field Engineering team is tasked with investigating the capabilities of Generative AI technologies and providing critical insights to MongoDB's R&D teams to enhance future MongoDB functionalities and the broader ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with project teams executing Application Modernization projects, contributing throughout all phases of the application lifecycle, including assessment, planning, design, data modeling, code conversion, development, testing, integration, and optimization.
- Evaluate and test MongoDB migration products to fulfill customer use cases and promote product adoption, providing clear feedback to the development organization.
- Engage closely with Product and Engineering teams to influence the MongoDB product roadmap.
- Lead well-defined, outcome-focused projects, including Proofs of Concept (POCs) and Minimum Viable Products (MVPs), often at client locations.
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of MongoDB's product line and the underlying technologies.
- Work collaboratively within a broader delivery team that includes consulting engineers, project managers, and account representatives.
- Support sales teams in assessing opportunities with prospects and clients.
- Be prepared to work on-site with clients and travel for collaboration with the Product development team.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 5 years of experience as a field engineer, professional services consultant, or full-stack developer working directly with enterprise clients.
- Proficiency in JavaScript and either Java or C#, along with familiarity with common database access patterns and frameworks.
- Expertise in enterprise-scale software architectures, application development methodologies, and deployment operations.
- Extensive experience in developing enterprise applications using relational databases, including proficiency in SQL and stored procedures with Oracle, MS SQL Server, Sybase, and/or PostgreSQL.
- Experience with MongoDB and JSON-based document models is highly desirable.
- Strong problem-solving abilities, with a collaborative approach to overcoming technical and business challenges.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective interaction with team members and clients.
- A solid understanding of Generative AI concepts, tools, and services, with experience in developing applications/tools using Generative AI being a significant advantage.
- A keen interest in how AI-supported toolchains can enhance application development.
