Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Data Scientist/Engineer to join our team at the Barcelona Supercomputing Center. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing data-driven solutions to analyze and mitigate wildfire risk.

Key Responsibilities
  • Design and develop data products, including data acquisition, cleaning, and modeling, to support our wildfire risk analysis efforts.
  • Analyze large datasets to identify trends, patterns, and insights that inform our risk assessment and mitigation strategies.
  • Develop and deploy predictive models using statistical techniques to forecast wildfire risk and behavior.
  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams, including scientists, software engineers, and data scientists, to integrate data-driven insights into our research and development projects.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in writing clean and maintainable Python code, with a strong focus on data analysis and machine learning.
  • Strong problem-solving, mathematical, and statistical skills, with the ability to apply systems from research departments to operational products.
  • Programming skills in Python, C/C++, JavaScript, and other relevant languages.
  • Experience developing systems on top of and for Linux environments.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with geospatial data and open-source GIS libraries, data formats, and standards.
  • Experience dealing with danger applied to natural disasters, particularly wildfires.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize and manage projects independently.
  • Proficiency in English, with good handling of Spanish.
