Join Our Team as an Applied Thermal Specialist

Holtec International, a leading provider of innovative technologies for the nuclear power industry, is seeking a highly skilled Applied Thermal Specialist to join our thermal-hydraulics group in Madrid.

The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and analyzing spent nuclear fuel storage and transportation casks, high-density spent nuclear fuel storage racks, and SMR thermal-hydraulic evaluations. They will also participate in the preparation and review of calculation reports, licensing reports, and computer code validations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Thermal performance evaluations of spent fuel casks
  • Thermal performance evaluations of spent fuel pools
  • Design and performance evaluations of heat exchangers
  • Preparation and review of calculation reports
  • Preparation and review of licensing reports
  • Preparation and review of computer code validations
  • Participating in meetings with clients and government regulators

Requirements:

  • Eligibility to work under Department of Energy 10 CFR Part 810
  • Advanced degree (MS, PhD, or equivalent) in Mechanical, Chemical, or Nuclear engineering
  • Experience using the ANSYS-FLUENT CFD program
  • Thorough knowledge of heat transfer and fluid dynamics fundamentals
  • Thorough knowledge of CFD models for turbulence
  • Demonstrated excellent technical writing skills and effective communication skills

Desired Experience:

  • Experience in modeling problems with two-phase flow, boiling, and condensation
  • Experience with RELAP5 and/or GOTHIC
