Job Title: Engineering Manager

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead our Platform Engineering team at The Workshop. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for overseeing the development and operation of our tools and processes, ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of our deployment pipelines.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage a team of Platform engineers, providing guidance, mentoring, and leadership to ensure they meet and exceed company expectations.
  • Plan and organize team work, ensuring deadlines are met and projects are accomplished.
  • Define and implement DevOps best practices and strategies, fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, and customer focus.
  • Represent the team, providing advice and knowledge for planning critical changes, migrations, and ensuring resources are granted when needed.
  • Support engineering teams in becoming high-performing, autonomous teams, applying DevOps culture, processes, principles, and behaviors.
  • Work closely with Software development, Architecture, and Security teams to streamline processes and improve efficiency.
  • Act as a key point of escalation for platform-related issues, working with external service providers and vendors as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with senior stakeholders, customers, and delivery teams on platform-related matters.
Requirements:
  • Experience in Platform engineering/DevOps, leading teams or having worked in a similar management role.
  • Demonstrated experience in DevOps culture and methodologies, with a passion for teaching others and public speaking.
  • Understanding of systems at a whole-picture level, with the ability to explain and support technical decisions.
  • Experience working with Kubernetes on high-load systems, with familiarity with features like Service Mesh, OpenPolicy agents, and observability tooling.
  • Knowledge of public and private clouds, including Google Cloud Platform, AWS, Azure, OpenStack, and VMWare.
  • Strong understanding of Continuous Integration and Deployment concepts and tools.
  • Understanding of database technologies, relational and NoSQL, including MySQL, PostgreSQL, Cassandra, ElasticSearch, and MongoDB.
  • Basic programming knowledge, including an understanding of code and coding concepts, plus advanced knowledge of scripting languages like Bash, Python, Perl, and Ruby.
  • Ability to set and meet tight project deadlines, work well under pressure, and deliver to strict SLAs.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
  • Full English proficiency, with excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of conveying technical information to diverse audiences.
