As organizations increasingly grapple with extensive legacies of outdated applications, they face challenges such as limited scalability, high operational costs, and lengthy development cycles. To tackle these issues, many are embarking on significant Application Modernization programs. MongoDB stands out as the preferred developer data platform for transactional systems, offering unparalleled scalability, resilience, and an exceptional developer experience, both in the cloud and on-premises. Organizations are actively transitioning workloads from these legacy systems to modern platforms, frequently utilizing microservices and MongoDB.
These transformations can be complex and time-consuming, often fraught with risks. However, advancements in generative AI technology present an unprecedented opportunity to expedite these processes. The Field Engineering team is tasked with investigating the potential of Generative AI technologies and providing essential insights to MongoDB's R&D teams to enhance future capabilities within the MongoDB ecosystem.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with project teams executing Application Modernization initiatives with clients.
- Evaluate, develop, and implement tools for modernization projects, ensuring their effective use across various teams.
- Identify opportunities for tool deployment and select suitable third-party tools.
- Contribute to the creation of tooling prototypes and help shape the product roadmap.
Ideal Candidate Profile
- 5+ years of experience as a field engineer, professional services consultant, or full-stack developer working with enterprise clients.
- Proficient in JavaScript and either Java or C#, with familiarity in common database access patterns and frameworks.
- Expertise in enterprise-scale software architectures, application development methodologies, and software deployment operations.
- Extensive experience in developing enterprise applications utilizing relational databases, with proficiency in SQL and stored procedures for Oracle, MS SQL Server, Sybase, and/or PostgreSQL.
- Experience with MongoDB and JSON-based document models is highly desirable.
- Strong problem-solving abilities, with a collaborative approach to overcoming technical and business challenges.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective interactions within teams and with clients.
- Understanding of Generative AI concepts, tools, and services; experience in developing applications/tools using Generative AI is a significant advantage.
- A keen interest in how AI-enhanced toolchains can optimize application development.
Position Expectations
- Engage in customer application modernization efforts throughout the application lifecycle, including assessment, planning, design, data modeling, development, testing, integration, and optimization.
- Test and provide feedback on MongoDB migration products to support customer use cases and drive product adoption.
- Collaborate closely with Product and Engineering teams to influence the MongoDB product roadmap.
- Execute well-defined projects, including POCs and MVPs, focusing on customer success and reusability.
- Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the product line and associated technologies.
- Work within a broader delivery team, including consulting engineers, project managers, and account teams.
- Assist sales teams in evaluating opportunities with potential clients.
