The Radiation Engineering & Analysis (REA) division at Westinghouse Electric Company LLC is seeking a seasoned nuclear engineer, a physicist with a focus on nuclear technologies, or a similarly qualified engineer to contribute to our ongoing expansion.
REA has been instrumental in the design and evaluation of Pressurized Water Reactors (PWRs) since the inception of the commercial nuclear power sector. Our expertise has broadened to encompass the Combustion Engineering PWR fleet, Boiling Water Reactors (BWRs), and several advanced reactor designs, including the Westinghouse AP1000 plant, eVinciTM microreactor, and AP300TM small modular reactor. Our clientele spans globally, with projects in Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas, addressing operational fleets, decommissioning efforts, and new constructions. To fulfill this demand, our workforce is also international, featuring engineers located in various countries.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage specific scopes within large-scale commercial nuclear and decommissioning initiatives.
- Conduct neutron transport calculations surrounding the reactor vessel, review plant schematics, and develop transport models.
- Perform fluence, activation, heating rate, and dosimetry calculations, critically assess results, and generate technical documentation.
- Execute radiation source term calculations, including post-irradiation compositions utilizing ORIGEN and coolant activity.
- Provide licensing support for the Decontamination & Decommissioning (D&D) of retiring facilities.
- Conduct radiation shielding assessments.
- Analyze decay heat.
- Support Operating Nuclear Power Plants (NPPs) with accident evaluations in accordance with regulatory standards.
- Assist in radiation protection efforts.
We utilize a variety of advanced codes developed internally, including RAPTOR-M3G, our latest 3D discrete-ordinates tool. These proprietary codes complement our use of publicly available nuclear codes (MCNP, DOORS, and SCALE) to meet our clients' specific requirements. Most calculations are performed in a Linux environment.
Occasional travel for industry meetings and short-term field assignments may be necessary. This full-time position is based at the Westinghouse Electric Company LLC headquarters.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Nuclear Engineering or a related field.
- At least 5 years of relevant experience.
- Proficiency in English: B2 (verbal) and C1 (written).
- Proficiency in Spanish: B2 (verbal) and C1 (written).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Linux, programming, and computational simulations.
- Familiarity with relevant software codes (MCNP, SCALE, etc.).
