About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Network Engineer to join our team at the IMDEA Software Institute. As a key member of our network operations team, you will be responsible for supporting, managing, and planning new deployments in REDIMadrid and an emerging quantum communication infrastructure (MadQCI).

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate technical tasks to maintain the network in an optimal state of use, including establishing and maintaining router configurations and proactive management to prevent incidents and outages.
  • Assess and implement network upgrades to ensure leading-edge services for the research community.
  • Provide technical support to universities on network connections, using email, slack channels, and thematic workshops.
  • Measure and plan IP and optical equipment needs for network connections and services.
  • Develop, configure, and maintain network tools to monitor core networks.
  • Implement security services and mitigate denial of service attacks at the network perimeter.
  • Coordinate with RedIRIS for network maintenance and expansion.
Requirements
  • M.Sc. or B.Sc. degree in Telecommunications or a related field.
  • At least 8 years of proven experience as a network engineer, with at least 5 years in a service provider environment.
  • Proven experience in managing IP networks (Juniper and Cisco) and optics communication (DWDM, CIENA, and ADVA).
  • Proficiency in Routing Protocols (BGP4, PIM-SM, MP-BGP, MSDP, eVPN, L3VPN).
  • Fluent in English and Spanish speaking, writing, and reading.
Desirable Qualifications
  • CCNP-SP or JNCIP-SP and ideally CCIE-SP JNCIE-SP certificate.
  • Knowledge in SDN (Software Defined Network) in the service provider environment.
  • Knowledge in network monitoring tools (grafana, zabbix, optical tools).
  • Knowledge in white boxes IP in service provider environment.
