Position Overview
As a Financial Operations Associate in our Madrid office, you will play a crucial role in supporting our Senior Accountant with the daily project accounting tasks related to development, construction, and operational energy projects, as well as associated entities in the United Kingdom. You will also engage in various corporate accounting responsibilities in Spain and provide additional support for accounting, tax, accounts payable, and treasury functions for holding companies within Invenergy's expanding international portfolio. This role will be performed under the guidance of our local Controller in Madrid and in collaboration with the Accounting, Tax, and Treasury teams based in Chicago, USA.
Your responsibilities will include assisting with the monthly closing of books and maintaining records for accounting entities associated with these projects. Additionally, you will provide support for holding companies that manage subsidiary electric generation projects at different stages of development, construction, and operations.
The ideal candidate is a self-motivated individual who is well-organized, possesses strong computer skills, can manage multiple tasks effectively, and is eager to embrace new and exciting challenges. Recent graduates are encouraged to consider this opportunity. While prior work experience is not mandatory, a foundational knowledge of accounting principles is advantageous.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements.
- Support the development of project workbooks to substantiate balance sheet and income statement entries.
- Help ensure the accuracy of all general ledger data.
- Contribute to annual audit preparations.
- Assist in coordinating treasury projects, banking activities, and cash flow analyses.
- Monitor tax compliance and accounting operations within the Invenergy group on an international scale, with a particular focus on Spain.
- Support the preparation and submission of monthly and quarterly tax return filings (VAT and Withholding Tax) in Spain.
- Assist in the calculations and provisions for Corporate Income Tax in Spain.
- Help prepare and submit Corporate Income Tax returns and periodic self-assessments in Spain.
- Assist with various administrative tasks as needed.
- Engage in additional projects as assigned.
Experience and Skills
- 0-3 years of relevant experience.
- A degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, or Law.
- A basic understanding of IFRS and/or Spanish GAAP.
- Completion of an IFRS or USGAAP specialization course is a plus, though not required.
- Familiarity with accounting software (e.g., Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics) is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Intermediate proficiency in English is preferred.
- Self-motivated with a strong desire to thrive in a dynamic environment.
- Proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft Office applications is essential.
