Overview: The Institut Català de Nanociència i Nanotecnologia (ICN2) is dedicated to achieving excellence in the fields of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology. Project Description: The NanoElectrocatalysis Group integrates electrochemical techniques, materials science, and advanced in situ characterization to uncover design principles for innovative electrocatalyst materials. These materials are essential for the conversion and storage of renewable energy, as well as for producing sustainable fuels and chemicals. The selected candidate will engage in characterizing functional electrocatalyst materials and exploring the molecular mechanisms involved in the direct electrochemical activation of methane, converting it into methanol and other valuable products.
Main Responsibilities:
- Utilize classical electrochemical methods alongside in situ characterization techniques, including infrared and Raman spectroscopy, as well as synchrotron-based structural analysis.
- Investigate the structure-property relationships of electrocatalyst materials and the mechanisms underlying electrocatalytic oxidation reactions, particularly focusing on methane conversion to methanol.
- Develop electrochemical and in situ characterization methodologies for real-time detection of intermediates and products during electrocatalytic processes.
- Collaborate with various research groups within ICN2 and partner institutions internationally.
- Conduct independent research under supervision, author scientific publications for peer-reviewed journals, and present findings at international conferences.
Qualifications:
- Education: PhD in electrochemistry or a related field.
- Experience: Proven experience in electrocatalysis and in situ spectroscopy, with significant publications as a lead author in relevant areas.
- Skills: Familiarity with materials characterization techniques, gas chromatography, and synchrotron X-ray methods for analyzing electrocatalytic reactions.
- Personal Attributes: Strong communication skills, proficiency in written and spoken English, and the ability to develop experimental electrochemical and spectroscopic techniques. The candidate should be capable of advancing the research project independently while also collaborating effectively within an international team.
