Principal Software Architect

The E4B (Expedia for Business) division is in search of a Senior Architect. This team is dedicated to crafting and defining commercial platform solutions tailored for our B2B clientele. Key responsibilities include developing headless commerce APIs, an Online Travel Agency platform, and customizable white label templates, along with bespoke solutions utilizing the EG platform and third-party capabilities.

We invite you to leverage your expertise and insights as we advance the future of business-to-business functionalities on the Expedia platform. Your role will require thought leadership, exceptional communication skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively in a dynamic agile environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Foster relationships with engineering and product leaders across the organization to comprehend business challenges and apply technological solutions.
  • Architect and develop software solutions that address complex issues with straightforward designs.
  • Provide coaching and mentorship: Share knowledge and skills across multiple functional areas to enhance departmental effectiveness.
  • Analyze internal and external business challenges and recommend the integration of suitable systems, applications, and technologies to deliver comprehensive solutions.
  • Master software design principles, shape coding methodologies, and advocate for the adoption of innovative platform technologies.
  • Enhance organizational efficiency by adopting a holistic systems approach, identifying which policies and processes should be standardized or customized.
  • Recognize when emerging trends may be impractical for implementation or fleeting in nature.
  • Champion prioritized objectives and collaborate with others across EG to explore those initiatives, ensuring documentation remains relevant and manageable.
  • Provide leadership, technical guidance, and architectural insights into product vision and roadmap development.
  • Collaborate with global teams to drive towards the desired architectural vision.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant technical discipline; or equivalent professional experience.
  • Over 10 years of industry experience in full-stack software development across diverse technologies, languages, and frameworks.
  • Ability to make informed decisions across teams, applying various technologies or languages with experience in multiple domains.
  • Capable of presenting new technology options to both technical and non-technical audiences, guiding others in making well-informed technology selections.
  • Understanding of systems developed across EG and how your business unit integrates with them.
  • Proficient in designing and comprehending highly sophisticated systems.
  • Ability to establish standards for operational excellence and code quality across multiple projects.
  • Advocate for principles and practices in software design that ensure testability and observability.
  • Experience in building scalable distributed cloud-based microservice architectures.
  • Strong background in third-party cloud services, particularly Amazon AWS, with UI development experience using React JS being advantageous.
  • Effective coaching and leadership capabilities, with the ability to manage engineering projects across a diverse organization with globally distributed teams.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, capable of articulating technical details and challenges to a varied audience.
  • Ability to approach solutions creatively and unconventionally, identifying opportunities for innovation and engaging partners in a shared vision and strategy.
