About the Role Are you eager to make a significant contribution to the advancement of Hopper's travel technology? We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our Hotel division and assist in transforming the landscape of travel selling and booking technology. The Hotel segment is responsible for a substantial portion of the company's total revenue. As a Software Engineer, you will play a crucial role in designing, implementing, and deploying the advanced backend systems that enhance Hopper's award-winning user experience.

Your Daily Responsibilities:

Strategizing, researching, or outlining an upcoming project that you will lead. Guiding fellow team members through pair programming or asynchronous communication. Developing code, reviewing peers' code, and refining existing code. Exploring new technical concepts, services, or GCP features that can benefit our team. Although Hopper maintains a low-meeting culture (with no more than 10 hours of meetings scheduled at the week's start, including for managers), we value regular discussions to review ongoing projects and plan future sprints.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

Experience in full-stack development, particularly with a strong focus on backend capabilities. Proficiency in Scala or other JVM languages (such as Java), with proven experience in a production environment. A solid grasp of system architecture, with an emphasis on creating scalable and maintainable solutions. Expertise in various service communication methods, including gRPC, pub/sub, and REST. Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and best practices for cloud-native development. Experience in deploying infrastructure using Terraform or similar tools. A track record of leading and delivering complex, multi-month projects from conception to production. A commitment to improving system quality and reliability, demonstrating excellence in software engineering practices. A professional background in the travel industry, with an understanding of its unique challenges and requirements.
