Senior Site Reliability Engineer - Cloud Solutions

This position is fully remote, welcoming candidates from various locations.

About the Position:

We are in search of a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to enhance the reliability of our Cloud database services, specifically those utilizing Mimir, Loki, Tempo, and Pyroscope. Our databases are offered as a SaaS solution across AWS, GCP, and Azure, serving our most valued Grafana Cloud clients.

The SRE team is a newly established unit within the Databases division, responsible for managing environments for our largest clients and collaborating with existing teams that operate the databases. As a Senior SRE, you will oversee software configuration, engage in the development of new features, manage releases to ensure they do not compromise service level objectives (SLOs) or user experience, and contribute to design documentation, code reviews, and other engineering tasks aimed at improving customer reliability and observability.

In this role, you will participate in an on-call rotation, sharing responsibilities with the Mimir team to focus on customer experience while being supported by another on-call engineer who addresses system issues. Our company embraces a global hiring approach to maintain a healthy on-call schedule aligned with standard daylight hours.

Key Qualifications:

  • A robust engineering background with a minimum of 6 years of experience, including at least 3 years in SRE roles.
  • Experience in reliability engineering, production engineering, infrastructure engineering, or software engineering with a focus on systems.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of engaging in technical discussions with engineers and clients, and collaborating across teams.
  • Proficiency with Kubernetes on platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure, along with experience in Helm charts or other Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools.
  • Familiarity with Site Reliability Engineering principles and Distributed Computing.
  • Proficient in one or more programming languages (e.g., Go, Python, Java).
  • Understanding of Linux operating systems, networking, cloud storage, and scaling.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Experience in participating in blame-free incident response, including follow-up actions and creating high-quality post-incident reviews.
  • Comfortable working in an environment that promotes autonomy and self-direction.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Conduct regular one-on-one meetings with your manager and peers.
  • Review and establish SLOs, actively seeking ways to optimize resource usage while improving monitoring, automation, and self-healing capabilities.
  • Enhance customer observability within their environments.
  • Design and implement solutions to ensure the reliability and scalability of our services to meet growing demands.
  • Develop fault-tolerant design patterns, ensuring reliability is prioritized throughout the service lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with Engineering Leaders to shape product strategy, roadmaps, and technical designs.
  • Engage in code reviews and assist colleagues with their design documentation.
  • Educate others on Site Reliability Engineering best practices to be integrated early in the development of new features.
  • Participate in incident response activities, including investigation, resolution, post-incident reviews, and customer communication when necessary.
