**Description**:** POSITION PURPOSE**

Responsible for conducting a comprehensive and technology-driven maize breeding program for the temperate (103-112 RM) grain market in Europe based in southwest France (Carcarès-Sainte-Croix).

In addition, strong communication and collaboration skills are needed to benefit from and contribute to our broad and deep Europe and Global Breeding Scientist Network. Leadership abilities to lead teams and drive projects are also desirable.

- Collaboration on breeding activities exchange of breeding methodologies and germplasm
- External partnership like universities with direct plant breeding focus on related areas

- Provide technical expertise on hybrids in the marketplace and in the later stages of development
- Strong connection with other Scientist in Europe especially in the Europe South Evaluation Zone

**Responsibility**
- Planning and conducting a comprehensive local corn breeding program
- Interaction with breeding and science community to improve breeding methodologies
- Provide technical support to business partners in advancing best products to commercial stages in targeted maturity zone.
- Development, growth, external engagement, etc.

- Integrate key trait needs such as foliar, ear, and stalk disease tolerances, and root and stalk standability, into elite products.
- Innovate boldly and integrate modern molecular breeding strategies.
- Requires extensive knowledge of both theoretical and practical components of genetics, statistics, and commercial plant breeding.

**Examples of Decision Making**:

- Decide what products to advance in each stage of breeding program.
- Make effective use of resources in the breeding program to maximize genetic gain for various traits.
- Based on market needs, decide traits of focus and selection intensity, methods of phenotyping, and optimization of genetic diversity.

- +3 years knowledge in conducting a successful breeding program with noticeable achievements
