Bioinformatician
Virology Section - Microbiology Department

The Virology Section is seeking a highly motivated bioinformatician interested in studying the genetic features,
diversity and evolution of respiratory viruses among other viral agents from a bioinformatics point of view.

Education and qualifications:
Required:
- Academic formation on biosciences, with a degree or a master on Bioinformatics.
- Fluency in Catalan, Spanish, and English (business level, accreditation would be an asset)

Experience and knowledge:
Required:
- Experience in using bioinformatics tools for sequence analysis, interpretation, and visualization of NGS results
(quality filtering, de novo assembly and reference mapping, variant calling, phylogenetic analyses, etc.),
especially focused on viral genomics.
- Experience in downloading and analysing publicly-available -omics databases.
- Experience in testing bioinformatics tools and provided feed-back.
- Advance level of programming (at least R, Python3 and bash) and running programs from the command prompt.
- Experience in working with and developing databases (SQL, PL/SQL etc.).
- Interest in implementing and developing new tools for data integration analyses.
- Written and oral communication skills in both computational and experimental areas.
- Good management skills: analytical, organizational and time management.
- Good communication and social skills.
- High motivation, initiative, proactivity, responsibility, organization, and teamwork abilities.

Desired:
- Experience optimizing and parallelizing pipelines.
