RMIT Europe is seeking a dynamic and motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow to deliver on RMIT Europe’s objectives under Project ALCOAT (Recycled aluminium alloy coatings with chemically tailored electrochemical potential for safe protection of steel structures) funded by the EU Research Fund for Coal & Steel (RFCS).
The ALCOAT project will develop two new families of aluminium alloy coatings for protection of wind towers, ships and other structures exposed to sea water and atmosphere, and steel sheet products for automotive, building and home appliance industries.

To be successful in this role, you will need:
- PhD in Computer Science, Materials Science, Chemistry or related discipline- Excellent communication skills and high-level proficiency in English and Spanish- Demonstrated experience in computational materials modelling- Experience corrosion and corrosion protection-
- Demonstrated project management skills, and ability to deliver project outcomes on time- Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills in multi-disciplinary research teams- Big impact, Innovation, Leadership, Flexibility, Grow together_
What will you be accountable for?
As directed by the ALCOAT academic lead and in consultation with the project coordinator and other relevant partners:
- Assume responsibility for day-to-day oversight of ALCOAT project implementation, delivery and reporting- Liaise with project partners including the lead for all project deliverables and reporting- Develop a continuum model of the electrochemical interaction of the coating and substrate that will be used to make the preliminary selection of best compositions- Develop a multi-scale model framework that allows molecular scale data to be inputted into the electrochemical model.-
- Prepare documentation and materials around coordination, governance and progress reports.- Collate results of project activities and assist in the preparation of project deliverables and publications within agreed timeframes.- Communicate ALCOAT research outcomes to other team members, clients and the broader research community internal and external to RMIT University, through high quality papers/journal articles, seminars, and conference attendance.
As directed by the Senior Manager, EU Project Office:
- Contribute to the efficient delivery of all the required technical deliverables and reports in due time.-
- Participate in annual work planning and performance management processes.- Perform other duties that may be required for the efficient operations of the RMIT Europe team.
