Created in 2005 by the Generalitat de Catalunya (Government of Catalonia) and the University of Barcelona, IRB Barcelona is a Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence—a seal that was awarded in 2011.

The institute is devoted to conducting research of excellence in biomedicine and to transferring results to clinical practice, thus improving people’s quality of life, while simultaneously promoting the training of outstanding researchers, technology transfer, and public communication of science. Its 29 laboratories and seven core facilities address basic questions in biology and are orientated to diseases such as cancer, metastasis, Alzheimer’s, diabetes, and rare conditions.

IRB Barcelona is an international centre that hosts 500 members and 45 nationalities. It is located in the Barcelona Science Park. IRB Barcelona forms part of the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) and the “Xarxa de Centres de Recerca de Catalunya” (CERCA).

**Your Role & Our Team**

**_ IRB Barcelona is seeking a Research Officer, _**a motivated scientific biomedical professional (veterinarian, biologist, biotechnologist or from a similar area of knowledge) with proven skills in general biomedical laboratory tasks, histology, pathology and/or tissue scanning and image analysis to cover a position in the Histopathology Facility to support an aging and cellular reprogramming scientific project. The position is available for 1 year in a full-time capacity with the potential for renewal.

**Key responsibilities**
- Coordinate and provide general support for project-specific activities:

- Tracking and monitoring project budget expenses
- Purchasing of reagents and management of customs clearance requirements alongside the IRB finance and purchasing department
- Assisting with experimental procedures (preparation of material for tissue collection and fixation, shipping of samplesamong others)
- Translation of experimental protocols from English to Spanish/Catalan
- Acting as key contact person with the research team to anticipate the timelines of the studies and the support needed for the above-mentioned tasks.
- Provide support to Image Analysis and Histopathological studies within the facility:

- Computerized pathology: Tissue image scanning and use of the different image analysis tools for the interpretation of the tissue histopathological data.

**You have**
- **Experience**: PhD or Master in Veterinary, Biology, Biotechnology degree or equivalent with proven experience in an experimental laboratory of histopathology, biomedicine or similar.
- **Knowledge**:
- General research support: basic administrative and laboratory tasks
- General concepts of microscopy, histology and/or pathology
- **Skills**:
- Proactivity and self-motivated
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
- Proven collaboration and communication skills
- High level of English (written and oral)
- Informatics and Statistical skills

**You might also have**
- **Experience**: Experience in tissue scanning and image analysis. Rodent necropsy and tissue sample collection. FELASA accreditation.
- **Knowledge**:Digital pathology and image analysis and related methods.
- **Skills**: Custom orientation
