Created in 2005 by the Generalitat de Catalunya (Government of Catalonia) and the University of Barcelona, IRB Barcelona is a Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence—a seal that was awarded in 2011.

The institute is devoted to conducting research of excellence in biomedicine and to transferring results to clinical practice, thus improving people’s quality of life, while simultaneously promoting the training of outstanding researchers, technology transfer, and public communication of science. Its 28 laboratories and seven core facilities address basic questions in biology and are orientated to diseases such as cancer, metastasis, Alzheimer’s, diabetes, and rare conditions.

IRB Barcelona is an international centre that hosts 400 members and 35 nationalities. It is located in the Barcelona Science Park. IRB Barcelona forms part of the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) and the “Xarxa de Centres de Recerca de Catalunya” (CERCA).

IRB Barcelona seeks to recruit a highly motivated **Scientific Officer** to support activities related to the management and performance of the **Scientific Platforms** that serve the IRB Barcelona research community. Reporting to the **Head of Core Facilities**, the Technical Officer will join the “Core Facilities & Services” unit, which belongs to the administration team of the institute.

**DUTIES**:
Support activities related to the Scientific Platforms, both the IRB Barcelona Core Facilities and external platforms, currently being used by the IRB Barcelona research community. In particular, the Technical Officer will:

- Liaise between the IRB Barcelona community, the Barcelona Science Park, and other external providers in relation to common spaces, equipment and scientific services.
- Mediate relations/communication with users and other stakeholders (mainly the Barcelona Science Park).
- Monitor quality performance and user satisfaction. Organise internal meetings for users of the IRB Barcelona Core Facilities.
- Gather information on user needs and provide support to the Purchasing team regarding technical matters about new equipment or other scientific/technical requests.
- Manage the requirements of both users and facility officers.
- Ensure technical supervision of IRB Barcelona equipment used by multiple groups.

**EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS**:
**Must Have - Required**:

- ** Experience**:

- Lab management or equivalent experience for at least 5 years in similar institutions.
- **Knowledge**: BSc in Biology or other degree related to Biomedicine.
- **Skills**:Teamwork and organisation capacity, and strong interpersonal and communication skills.

**Desirable**:

- **Experience**: Several years working in similar institutions as a lab technician or research assistant.
- **Knowledge**: Any other degree related to scientific management.
- **Skills**: Good negotiation skills, client oriented.
